I want to ask you the question that I posed with the title of this article: Are you a ‘dead man walking’? Let me give you the biblical answer to this. If you are a new creature in Christ, you are alive, and will be forever. If you have never repented and believed the gospel, you are, indeed, a ‘dead man walking’. Let me explain.
The death of man began in the garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. When they disobeyed God by taking the fruit and eating, they died in that day, according to the Bible. But, wait just a minute. Doesn’t the Bible say that Adam lived to be 930 years old? So, how is that not a direct contradiction between verses? You have to understand first that you are a three-part being: body (the exterior that we all see), the soul (the mind, will, and emotions), and the spirit (the portion of man that exists forever, either alive with God in heaven or dead and separated from God in hell). The body of Adam lived 930 years, but his spirit died in that day. That is what separated man from God (because the spirit allowed fellowship with God. When the spirit of man died, that broke the fellowship, and that is why man was cast out of the garden and onto the earth.) Death passes from father to child, which is why Jesus had to be born of a virgin (so that He would not inherit the death that every man does). So, what do we do to fix this?
The way that you are brought to life again is through the shed blood of Jesus. He alone, because of the fact that He didn’t inherit death, could be the payment for our sins. All that He requires is that you humble yourself, repent, and believe that He paid the price for you to live. That’s it. I want to explain to you how to go about being restored. I’m not going to give you a prayer to follow, but rather, I want to tell you that you just need to talk to Jesus. Just give Him your life and allow Him to break, make, and mold you into whatever He sees fit. Believe that He died for you, and tell Him that you are not sure how this works, but you are willing to learn. Tell Him that you need Him, and that you can never do anything worthwhile for yourself. If you do that with no reservations, then Jesus promises to restore you (in other words, breathe new life into your dead spirit).
